Environment

Our base, located on the outskirts of the Boumort National Hunting Reserve and surrounded by nature, is situated at 920 meters above sea level. It is protected to the north by the cliffs of Roc de Pessonada, to the east by the Carreu Valley and Boumort Ridge, to the south by Sant Corneli Mountain, and to the west by the Sant Antoni Reservoir and the Noguera Pallaresa Basin, to which it belongs.
The landscape is typically pre-Pyrenean, with rugged terrain, strong contrasts, and a rich diversity of flora and fauna.
The highest point of the range is Cap del Boumort, which reaches an altitude of 2,077 meters, offering a privileged viewpoint. Reaching it on horseback is truly an unforgettable experience.
The nearest town of importance is La Pobla de Segur, located in the Pallars Jussà region, where you can find all basic services, restaurants, and leisure activities. It is just a 15-minute drive away.
Wildlife
The area is home to the largest population of deer in Catalonia, which is a highlight of our autumn routes, during the Deer Rut. This is the time of year when the deer mate and form their harems, offering a spectacular natural display. Other cervids in the area include roe deer and fallow deer.
Other mammals that can be found include the badger, various species of mustelids, foxes, squirrels, hares, small rodents, wildcats, and the ever-present wild boar.
The reserve and its surroundings are also known for their bird population, including four species of carrion-eating vultures: the griffon vulture, black vulture, Egyptian vulture, and bearded vulture. Other raptors in the area include the peregrine falcon, golden eagle, and Pyrenean owl.

Flora
The dominant landscape is sub-Mediterranean, with forests of red pine and Corsican pine, and small-leaf oak groves at the lower altitudes, while black pine forests thrive at higher elevations. The undergrowth is rich, with predominant species being boxwood and juniper. Above 1,800 meters, alpine meadows can be found.
